Behold my "Math Wizards":
Like Matt, Jazzie is extremely good with numbers. She LOVES math and always gets straight A's on her tests. She truly is good at it. Always has been.
I on the other hand was never a math wizard. I hated math and science, but loved geography, history and language arts. Give me a new language to learn and I'll pick it up in no time, but math? Not so much. I remember being in school and struggling with math and being so frustrated because it simply wasn't clicking.
Now that Jazzie is in 5th grade, the math has gotten harder. They also started a new math program in school where the kids are learning all kinds of different strategies to solve problems which are completely foreign to me. So sometimes (okay fine, often) when I look at Jazzie's math homework, I don't get it. Jazzie finds this extremely amusing and likes to remind me all the time that she is better at math than me.
I help out in her classroom once a week and the time frame that I'm there happens to be during math. I work with the kids who need some extra help and I'm fine doing it, but Jazzie thinks it's hilarious that I'm there to help with math. The other day when I was there the teacher told the kids that if they were having trouble that she and I were there to help them. Jazzie turned around to look at me and couldn't contain her laughter. The look on her face was priceless: "Really mom, YOU are going to help us with MATH?"
I love my math wizard.
